Cape Town, sharks, safari and the Mukeu dental clinic

A different sort of adventure: that autumn Jack and Jackie went to South Africa and Kenya. Shark diving in Cape Town, a safari, Mombasa on the Indian Ocean, and the dental clinic in Mukeu where the family had come to help.

Dad in Africa!!!

Cape Town, South Africa

Not sure if anyone ever checks this but i will be updating it with my dad's different sort of adventure this month; playing tourist in Africa. He will be in South Africa for 2 weeks and then Kenya for one week. I'm 100% jealous that he is going to Kenya as I was there a few years ago. He left at about 3pm today so he's somewhere over the ocean right now. Will keep you posted...

Cape Town

Dad is currently in Capetown. Sorry the map is so small but basically the southern tip of South Africa. Jackie is joining him tomorrow as she is flying from Namibia to Cape town. Dad is loving it there so far. He's wishing he could take a motor bike around and he's loving the coffee. He's also getting used to all the hand shaking:)

Diving with sharks

Cape Town, South Africa

I really don't have many details, all I know is that Jackie and my dad went diving with sharks and Jackie got way too close! Jackie is on her way home. Dad is now driving along the Garden route and 200km west of Capetown in a place called Caledon...lucky, lucky guy!

Kenya

Bahari Beach Hotel, Mombasa, Kenya

Dad is currently in Mombasa at the Bahari Hotel. He has enjoyed seeing a lot of animals (water buffalo, elephants...), and just this morning he saw a lion eating the insides of a giraffe. He has had a guide/friend, Nicholas, that has taken him to a rural village, on a safari, and now to Mombasa. I'm really excited to talk to my dad about Kenya as I was there 3 years ago! He will be home on Sunday...

Mukeu Dental Clinic

Mukeu, Kenya

This is the dental clinic where Greta and I were going to help build and do dental hygiene teaching (Mukeu, Kenya) in 2005. Greta was very excited about getting equipment and supplies and was disappointed when her illness came back prohibiting her from going to Kenya.

Dr. Ben, dentist, works the clinic in the village. He has limited resources and could use the following items (anyone who can help, please let me (Jack) know and I will be happy to make arrangements)

1. Autoclave (sterilizer): they have an old one that breaks down

2. headpieces: high speed and prophylaxis

3. headpiece lubricant

4. extraction instruments; straight broad elevator, root tip elevators, seldon elevators

5. Preventatives; prophy paste caps and jar (pref. coarse).

6. He also mentioned he could use a light similar to the picture below.

(karibu means welcome in swahili, it is pronounced `care-ee-boo')

Mombasa

Bahari Beach Hotel, Mombasa, Kenya

Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya and it is found on the Indian Ocean. Here is dad with his tour guide Nicholas at the hotel in Mombasa.
